3. Conceptual Models

   • How a system is organized and operates
     • Metaphors and analogies that convey to people how to understand what a product is for and how to use it for an activity
     • The concepts that people are exposed to through the product
     • The relationships between those concepts
     • The mappings between the concepts and the user experience the product is designed to support or invoke
   • The best conceptual models are those that appear obvious; the operations they support being intuitive to use.

4. Interface Metaphors

   • Central component of a conceptual model.
   • Are intended to provide familiar entities that enable people to readily understand the underlying conceptual model and know what to do at an interface.

5. Interaction Types

   • Instructing
     • Where users issue instructions to a system
   • Conversing
     • Where users have a dialog with a system
   • Manipulating
     • Where users interact with objects in a virtual or physical space by manipulating them
   • Exploring
     • Where users move through a virtual environment or a physical space.
