The exchange of data in two or more devices via transmission medium

Data Communication

Data Communication Components

Ways of Data Flow

Delivery > must deliver data to the correct destination

Accuracy > must deliver data accurately

Timeliness > must deliver data accurately

Jitter > system will avoid jitter problem

Message - the information to be communicated

Sender - the device that sends the data message

Receiver - the device that receive the message

Medium - physical path by which a message travels from sender to receiver

Protocol - a set of rules that governs data communications

---- SIMPLEX ---- one of the two devices on alink can transmit data , the others can only receive

-- HALF DUMPLEX -- each devices can both transmit and receive, but not at same time

-- FULL DUMPLEX -- both devices can transmit and receive simultaneously
