Tybalt enters while Benvolio is trying to stop the fight between the Capulet and Montague servants. Instead of trying to help Benvolio, Tybalt speaks to him in a scornful tone.'What? Art thou drawn amongst these heartless hinds?Turn thee Benvolio and look upon thy death.'Here Shakespeare focuses attention on Tybalt's tone, by the first word, 'What?' and by abandoning the normal iambic pentameter used by important characters. Tybalt also immediately threatens to kill Benvolio, who is well known as a peaceable character. When Benvolio goes on to say that he is only trying to keep the peace, Tybalt immediately replies, 'I hate the word, as I hate hell, all Montagues and thee!'Again his tone is harsh and aggressive, comparing peace with hell and linking the Montagues with hell.
