Old Age and the Workplace- Many experience compulsory early retirement- Many are 'too old to employ'- Pensions are financially draining the government- Some choose to work past retirement age to keep status or maintain their standard of living- Legislation made age discrimination illegal but some say they've experienced ageismPensions- McKingsley refers to over 85 as oldest old- Milne and Harding found evidence of two groups; those in early years of retirement and the other of the over 80- State pension is for everyone- Pensioners are prone to poverty- Private pension schemes are beneficial upon retirement

Benefits of Age Groups- Young are cheap and easier to train and mould- Middle age are high earners and seeking progress in careers- Old are expensive as they remain until retirement

Crime- Media creates moral panic for old age who are living alone, but they're unlikely to experience crimePolitics- Old age are better represented and more likely to understand use of political system to meet needsHealth- ill health is age related; young and old suffer the mostMedia- Old age stereotyped by focusing on ill health and dependency
