Punctuation - By Elise Watson
Re-write this paragraph, introducing more varied punctuation. Try to stay as faithful to the original as possible, concentrating on altering the punctuation, rather than the words.
The desert is cold at night, yet all the animals and insects seem to come to life. Overhead the moon beams down; anyone lost and wondering feels like crying. What can I do? Where can I go for rest and safety? Such are their cries. Yet the desert is merciless, it does not give any sign of hope or rescue. There is piercing cold, howling wind and shifting sand. There is just...hopelessness.
Write the opening paragraph(s) of a response in which you inform readers of a magazine for teenagers about how to prepare a quick meal for their friends. Make the punctuation as varied as possible.
Preparing a delicious, easy and quick meal for friends can be difficult. That's why we, Teen Time , created this one-time-only article so that you can impress your friends and show off your culinary skills.
They'll love the dish so much that they'll be coming back for more! Simple, but effective, dishes that are quick (and healthy) can be salad; this dish can be made with many, or few, ingredients that can be bought at almost any shop - or better yet, grown right at home!
Sandwiches. Sandwiches' are known for being a quick and tasty snack, but they can also be a meal. Any type of sandwich is okay - but presentation is vital too. Even if the sandwiches that you have made are small, adding that little extra touch can change a lot. Little things like the shape of the sandwich or small herb leaves gently placed on top can have a great effect on its appearance. Aswell as make you seem like you know what you're doing (even if you don't).
Planning -By Elise Watson
Write a newspaper article in which you argue either for or against the idea that exams should be done away with and grades should be awarded for coursework alone.
1. Collect your ideas.
For:
Allows students more time to focus on their coursework alone.
Students don't have to worry about revision.
Students may not make "silly" mistakes as they aren't in a pressurized situation.
Shows true potential.
Reduces stress, anxiety attacks, panic attacks and overall depression
Against:
Student may not have good, quality coursework to present, so must rely on a test to improve their overall mark.
Performance levels may decrease as students don't have to worry about revising.
May not take their coursework seriously.
Teaches students to manage time between revising, coursework, other lessons and their own free time.
Pressure can help students remember information that they may not have remembered otherwise.
2. Produce a detailed essay plan.
Introduction: Exams are being done away with - the argument for or against can then rise.
Paragraph 1: - I am for - The amount of time removing exams will save (for teachers and students).
Experts opinion - how it can help students make the most of their education.
Overall point - Saves time, makes the most of students education and how depression, anxiety e.g. in children is lowed.
Paragraph 2: Present opposing sides argument (in a bias way to try to keep readers for rather than against).
Shows how students manage their time.
Experts research - show how, on average, most of their time is spent freely, causing revision, assignments and coursework to be completed last minute.
Overall point - Can cause students to become over-worker, tired, depressed and have anxiety (due to panicking over the thought that everything won't be complete on time).
Paragraph 3: Go back to quality of work, stress and pressure, compare against opposing side and make for the way to go to persuade the reader.
Conclusion: Link back to question - Should exams be done away with and grades should be awarded for coursework alone. Go back to for and conclude.
