It is the imbalance of electric charges

within or on the surface of a material. The charge remains until it is able to

move away by means of an electric current or electrical discharge.

What is Static Electricity?!

Physics Revision

Just think about it!

Let's get the whole picture.

Static Electricity is basically the exchange of electrons taken place when materials rub against each other.

Each material is different, so we can only be told (in the exam) which material is negatively charged or positively charged!

So what does this whole Positive and Negative thing mean?

This is just the terms used to describe objects that have a certain amount of electrons.

What makes an object negatively charged is:

(>//~// There are more electrons given to the object in the exchange than there were to the other object. So the electrons outnumber the protons.

Hold on, wait a minute-- Let me put some Jesus in it! So what does this mean for positively charged objects? Charge and Behavior

The charge that an object has influences how it reacts to its environment. Cations (Cat who has ions!) are attracted to anions (An ion), for instance, but are repelled by other cations. Similarly, negatively-charged atoms repel each other.

This behavior is referred to as Coulomb’s law.

Coulomb's law is a function developed

in the 1780s by physicist Charles Augustine de Coulomb. It explains how

strong the force will be between two electrostatic charges.

Electrostatic means electric charges without any motion.

[Let's think]:

Two electric charges exist in an empty space. If two

charges are opposite, (+) and (-) charges for example, they will attract each

other. And if two charges are both the same, both positive (++) or both negative (- -) for example,

they will push each other. This is similar to magnetism, as N and S attract each other,

and as N and N, S and S push each other.

This is

because electric charges make an electric

field, such as magnets make a magnetic

field.

When both electric charges make their own field, as two fields will exist in one

space at the same time, and they will make force to each other. The force they

make to each other is called Coulomb's

force or Electrostatic force. Coulomb's law

explains how big the force will be.

CAT- ion are puss-itive! [They are positive!]

2. AN-ion are A Negative ion! [Remember An stands for A negative!]

NOTE: [REMEMBER THESE TWO THINGS:]

And yes, its the electrons that move. They are much lighter than the protons after all.
