What is it?

• We use "relative clauses" when we want to give more information about the person or thing we are talking about.
• The relative clauses It has a subject and a verb, but it can not be alone as a sentence.
• but Some relative clauses are not use to define or identify the previous noun, but to provide additional information about it.

RELATIVE CLAUSES

• WHO / WHICH / WHERE / WHEN
• WHOSE
• WHAT
• WHOM / WHO
• WHICH OR WHOM
• WHO: for people; WHICH: for things: WHERE: for places; WHEN: for times
• WHOSE: indicate possesion.
• WHAT: for the things that
• WHOM: the object of who
• WHICH OR WHOM: after a preposition

EXAMPLES:

• Students who study hard will do well in my class. (Only this group of students will do well.)
• Students whose grades are low can drop one test score. (Only this group can drop a test score.)
• That’s the man that I spoke to last week
• The hospital where I was born is being knocked down.
• This is the cat which I adopted.

• the people writing the blog are. (=people who write)
• ed clauses have passive meaning:
• the problems discussed are helpful to parent. (=that are discussed)
