Sweet Papaya is a co-operative that is run by local university students in the universities students union

The university students that work for the company have no previous experience working in a retail job

The company is set up not to make a profit

They sell organic locally sourced fruit and vegetables

SWOT ANALYSIS:

Strengths: There are no close shops in the village that sell a wide range of fruit and vegetables, the fruit and vegetables are sourced from local farms, they also have a strong company awareness locally

Weaknesses: There is only one till and it does not process card payments, orders are taken on scrap pieces of paper and are often lost, there is limited space where the company can operate, staff punctuality is low and they are not paid to work, the staff are made up of the university students

Opportunities: Start selling dairy products, grow the business

Threats: Economy, weather, finance

PEST ANALYSIS:

Political: A license is needed in order to sell dairy products

Economical: They do not have any source of income as they are not set up to make a profit - this means that they are not able to grow the business

Social: They are know well in the local community

Technology: Order system is written on scrap pieces of paper and are often lost, they can only take cash payments, there is only one till so multiple orders cannot be taken at once (this means that there is often a long queue of people)

There is a membership scheme where members pay £10 annually. All customers have to pay this charge to be able to shop with the company.

The funds raised from the membership fee are used to print leaflets and on stationary

PRICE LIST:

Box of Vegetables/Salad: £5

Box of Fruit: £3

Fruit and vegetables are seasonal dependant on what the farmers are growing. However, customers are asked what they want in their boxes

The current managers of the business are in their second year of their university course so would have to train and pass over the business to their sucessors
