lil hans

the aim of the study was to cure li hans phobia of horses. the aim of the study was also to test freuds's psychosexual development stages.

the study collected qualitative data form case study which included dream analysis. the study was a longitudinal study. freud received information from hans father and freud only met hans twice.

one theme was that hans was scared of white horses and black things around their mouths as he had seen a white horse falling . freud explained this as a fear for his father, the horses represented hans father and the black things around the horse mouth were the has n father glasses and the mustache he had.

the other theme was that hans was scared of drowning in the bath as had seen bathing his mum bathing his younger sister. freud believed hans was jealous of sister and wanted his mum attention for himself only and wanted his sister to drown. lil confirmed this was true.

another theme was that hans wanted away, even wish him dead. freud explained that this was because of hans love for his mother and wanted hi mother attention and therefore needed his father out

another theme was of hans playing with dolls and having children. hans said was he was married to his motehr and had children with her and that hans father was the grandfather. fred believed that the oedipus compex had been resoved as hans had identified himself with his father.

lil hans was cured from his phobia of horses.

freud concluded that was experiencing the oedipus complex.

evaluation

the study supports freud theroy of psycho sexual development stages.

finding cannot be generalised as it was a case study and therefore a unique situation. the sampling was biased as it was only participant. the study cannot be tested for reliability as there there was lots of interepretation and therefore an analyst can be subjective. another analyst could interpret this differently.

the study was valid even if data did not come directly from hans but hans dad gave the information to freud exact how the boy described.
