- Light travels as waves, waves can be describe by their amplitude, wavelength and frequency. The speed of a wave can be calculated from its frequency and wavelength. Waves are vibration that transfer energy.
- Transverse waves are when the displacement is at right angles to the direction of the wave.
- Longitudinal waves are when displacement is parallel to the direction of the wave.
- Amplitude is how high the wave is from the centre point.
- Wave length is the distance between two corresponding points on the wave and is measured in metres.
- Frequency is how many waves pass by every second and is measured in Hertz (Hz).
- Wave speed in m/s (v) = frequency in Hz (f) X wave length in m (h)
