  2. algebra

    • in its most general form, algebra is the study of mathematical symbols and the rules for manipulating these symbols; it is a unifying thread of almost all of mathematics. As such, it includes everything from elementary equation solving to the study of abstractions such as groups, rings, and fields.
  3. triganometry

    • Trigonometry (from Greek trigōnon, "triangle" and metron, "measure") is a branch of mathematics that studies relationships involving lengths and angles of triangles.
    • Trigonometry is good at find a missing side or angle in a triangle. The special functions Sine, Cosine and Tangent help us! They are simply one side of a right-angled triangle divided by another. (Sine, Cosine and Tangent are often abbreviated to sin, cos and tan.
  4. pythagoras

    • In this right triangle, you are given the measurements for the hypotenuse, c, and one leg, b. The hypotenuse is always opposite the right angle and it is always the longest side of the triangle. To find the length of leg a, substitute the known values into the PythagoreanTheorem. Solve for a2.

  6. area and circumfrence of a circle

    • times the radius by 3.14 and then yu have your area.
    • The area and the circumference of a circle. Make sure that you remember that a circumference is a length and so is measured , , etc. Remember as well that area is measured in square units, , etc. All of these calculations will involve the use of Pi ( ) which you can take as being equal to .
  7. averages

    • Most of the time when the term 'average' is used in a mathematical sense it refers to the mean average. Add the numbers together and divide by the number of numbers. (The sum of values divided by the number of values). Arrange the numbers in order, findthe middle number.
  8. pie charts

    • To draw a pie chart, we need to represent each part of the data as a proportion of 360, because there are 360 degrees in a circle. For example, if 55 out of 270 vehicles are vans, we will represent this on the circle as a segment with an angle of: (55/270) x 360 = 73 degrees.
