Flashcards do conjunto (7)
- 1Atomic Number: the number of a chemical element in the periodic system, whereby the elements are arranged in order of increasing number of protons in the nucleus. Accordingly, the number of protons, which is always equal to the number of electrons in the neutral atom, is also the atomic number.

- 2Isotope: one of two or more species of atoms of a chemical element with the same atomic number and position in the periodic table and nearly identical chemical behaviour but with different atomic masses and physical properties. Every chemical element has one or more isotopes.

- 3Mass Number: the total number of protons and neutrons in a nucleus.

- 4Avarage Atomic Mass:single atom is simply its total mass and is typically expressed in atomic mass units or amu.

- 5Radioactive: emitting or relating to the emission of ionizing radiation or particles.

- 6Nuclear Decay: is the process by which an unstable atomic nucleus loses energy by radiation. A material containing unstable nuclei is considered radioactive

- 7Ion: an atom or molecule with a net electric charge due to the loss or gain of one or more electrons.
