    Help us to find information easily and quickly, it is a really useful skill to have and will help you answer comprehension  question 

Slide 2

    SKIMMING
    It consists of giving a quick reading, identifying ideas or key phrases; It is not necessary to read every word in the text. The first sentence of each paragraph is read and it is a question of identifying the phrases or keywords of each one of them. In the end they are extracted and annotated in order to discover the general idea of the text

    SKIMMING EXAMPLES
    The news paper- to quickly get the general news of the day Magazines- to quickly discover which articles you would like to read in more detail bussinesand travel brochures- to quickly get information  Start to guess or anticipate the details we are going to read about think about the topic.

    SCANNING
    It is a reading technique to be used when you want to find specific information quickly. in scanning you have a question in your mind and you read a passage only to find the answer, ingnoring unrelated information.

    SCANNING EXAMPLES
    Look for key words related to your topic look through bulleted information and sidebards look for words in larger font sizes look for bold prind and  italics a conference guide.
