The approach of the problem refers to the definition of the problem, and consists of refining and structuring more formally the idea of research.

- The problem must express a relationship between two or more concepts or variables.

- The problem must be formulated as a question, clearly and unambiguously; for example, what effect ?, in what conditions ...?, what is the probability of ...?, how does it relate to ...?

- The approach must involve the possibility of performing an empirical test, that is, the feasibility of observing in the "unique and objective reality".
