- 1AlgorithmAn algorithm is a set of instructions/steps that are followed to solve a problem.
- 2ASCIIASCII is a 7-bit character set consisting of 128 different letters, numbers or punctuation symbols (the 8th bit is used as parity bit).
In ASCII, every character has a corresponding number, or ASCII code. - 3ByteA byte is a measurement of computer storage, with 1 byte being equal to 8 bits, e.g. 10101010
- 4CookiesCookies are small text files. They are stored on a user’s computer to help websites remember preferences and track user behaviour.
- 5CopyrightCopyright is a legal term given to the author of original work (computer programs, music, art, books, etc).
- 6CrackingCracking is the act of illegally removing the copy-protection and registration techniques used in computer software, DVDs etc.
- 7File FormatDifferent types of files are stored in different ways (formats). For example, the format of an image file (.jpg) is not the same as an audio file (.mp3).
- 8HackingHacking is the illegal access to a computer system without the owner’s consent or knowledge.
- 9IP addressAn IP address is a unique number given to every device on the internet. It signifies the location of the device, allowing devices to communicate with each other.
- 10Lossy CompressionA compression technique to reduce the size of a computer file. The file can never be restored to its original state as redundant data is permanently removed. This may result in a noticeable loss in quality.
- 11PseudocodePseudocode is a method of expressing an algorithm design.
Pseudocode is lines of instructions written in a language close to English but with common programming terms used where possible. - 12VariableIn programming, a variable is a named data location in a program for a value that can be changed during the running of the program.
- 13Web BrowserA web browser is a software application that allows the user to retrieve and display web pages from the world wide web.
- 14Convert 63 from denary to binary00111111
- 15Convert 01001110 to hexadecimal4E
- 16SimplexData travels in one direction only
- 17Half-duplexData travels in both directions, but not simultaneously
- 18Full-duplexData travels in both directions simultaneously
- 19Bandwidthis the maximum rate of data transfer across a given path. Bandwidth may be characterized as network bandwidth data bandwidth,or digital bandwidth.
- 20Bit rateIn telecommunications and computing, bit rate (bitrate or as a variable R) is the number of bits that are conveyed or processed per unit of time.
