  1. 1What is a robot?A robot is a machine designed and programmed to carry out tasks at speed and with great accuracy.
  2. 2List some advantages of robots.- Robots carry out repetitive work reliably.
    - They don't get bored or make mistakes.
    - Robots work quickly.
    - Robots can work in dangerous environments that is too risky for humans.
    - Robots can work in restricted spaces.
    - Robots can work with hazardous materials.
  3. 3How are robots used in manufacturing?Robots do repetitive jobs such as soldering electrical components or making microchips. An example would be in car factories where a robot is used to paint cars since it is a hazardous job for humans.
  4. 4How are robots used in agriculture?Robots are used in both glasshouses and in the fields. They can do crop spraying which is very dangerous for humans. Robots are also being developed to harvest crops.
  5. 5How are robots used in medicine?Surgeons use robotic surgical equipment to perform surgery that they can't do. It makes the patients recover faster and it takes less time.
  6. 6How are robots used in distribution?Robots are used to pick goods and send them to shops and customers. Drones can deliver vital goods to remote areas quickly and safely.
  7. 7How are robots used in disaster recovery?Robots can be equipped with mechanical tools to solve problems or take sample from a disaster site.
  8. 8What sensors do robots use?Proximity sensors, bumper switches and pressure pads.
  9. 9What do proximity sensors do?Proximity sensors use infrared light beams to detect the position of a nearby object.
  10. 10What do bumper switches do?Bumper switches tell a robot that it has hit something.
  11. 11What do pressure pads do?Pressure pads are used to control robot hands as they pick objects up and stop them from crushing it.
  12. 12What do vision guided robotics (VGR) do?Vision guided robotics allows robots to use video cameras to see in 2D and 3D. It also uses a sophisticated software that allows them to identify objects and interact with them.
  13. 13What does voice recognition and natural language processing (NLP) do?Voice recognition and natural language processing robots give robots a sense of hearing.
  14. 14Why are embedded processors important? They are important because they allow the robot to have freedom of movement.
  15. 15What is the definition of artificial intelligence (AI)?Artificial intelligence is the use of computers to stimulate intelligent behaviour.
  16. 16What is a real time operating system (RTOS)?A real time operating system is when robots operate in the real world and must respond to events as they happen. They have been developed to allow robots to work in the real world.
