- 1Name the order of the structure molecules. e.g. METHane, ETHane...Methane, Ethane, Propane, Butane, Pentane, Hexane, Heptane and Optane.
- 2What kind of reaction does an alkane undergo?Adittion reaction
- 3What happens in an addition reaction?A halogen atom is added into the thing to make a thing :) idk
- 4What is Markovnicovs rule? The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
- 5Describe how the cis and trans isomers are manly structured.Trans - H's on opposite sides of each other.
Cis - Same side as each other. - 6Name two main physical properties of an Alkane. Briefly describe them in relation to the alkane.Solubility - They are not soluble in water because they are non polar and water in polar.
MP/BP - AS size of akin increases the mp/bp increases. This is cause the intermolecular bonds are stronger as there are more electrons. So more energy is required to break the bonds. - 7What kind of reactions does an alcohol undergo. ( There are two)Elimination Reaction - Becomes an alkene. Can have major and minor type.
Substitution - Makes water and whatever it is reacting with, that is substituted into the equation. - 8Define the term constitutional (structural) isomer...Has the same molecular formula, but a different arrangement of atoms/different structural isomers.
- 9Name three possible reagents...- Acidified dichromate solution Cr2O72-/H+
- Bromine water Br2
- Sodium Carbonate Solution Na2CO3
Im sure there are more but idk what they are :) Edit this if you want. - 10Explain why 1,1-dichloroethene cannot exist as a cis-trans isomer...Although there us a double bond, the atoms/groups on each of the carbons of the double bond, are the same (2Cl on one C and 2H's on the other C)
- 11What are the physical properties of an Alkane?- Insoluble in water (No polar molecules)
-Non conductive (No free charged particles)
- Mp/Bp increases the more C's there are
- Less dense than water - 12What is the difference between an Alkane and an Alkene?Alkanes have a single C-C bond while Alkene has a double C=C bond.
- 13What kind of reaction can an Alkene undergo?Addition reaction and Oxidiation reaction
- 14What kind of reaction does a Haloalkane undergo?Substitution reaction
- 15What kind of reaction does an Alcohol undergo?Elimination and oxidation
- 16What are the possible reagents used in reactions?- Bromine water (Br2)
- Acidified potassium permanganate (H+/MnO4*-)
- Acidified potassium dichromate (H+/Cr2O(7)*2-)
- Carbonates or hydrogen carbonates (Na2CO3 or NaHCO3)
* = high number - 17What colour is the bromine water?Orange to clear and colourless.
Decolourised by alkenes, alkynes and slowly by alkanes - 18What colour is acidified potassium permanganate?Purple to clear and colourless. heated with primary alcohol changes the colour. Also added to an alkene, without heat. (If neutral instead of acidified is used it will turn brown instead)
- 19What colour is acidified potassium dichromate and what colour does it turn?Orange to green.
When heated with primary alcohol. - 20what colour is the carbonates and hydrogen carbonates?clear and colourless, releases bubbles of CO2 gas. It neutralises carboxylic acids.
