Karten in diesem Stapel (9)
- 1SeamountsUnderground volcanoes that don't come all the way up to the surface
- 2Volcanic islandsFormed by volcanoes that come all the way up to the surface
- 3Mid-ocean ridgeForm where molten rock pushes up from the interior of the Earth. On either side of the ridge are two different plates. They are slowly moving away from each other as the molten rock hardens into new crust.
- 4Ocean trenchesForm where two plates are moving toward each other. The thinner oceanic plate is pushed down below the thicker continental plate.
- 5Continental shelfShallow areas around the edge of the continent, mainly sedimentary deposits eroded off of the continent
- 6EskersForm when parts of the glacier melt. This meltwater flows in tunnels under the ice. The melting releases sand and gravel from the glacier. These sediments are deposited by the meltwater in the pattern of a winding river.
- 7MoraineFrom from rocks and gravel that build up along the sides and at the end of the glacier. As the edges of the glacier melt, large deposits form.
- 8Drumlinssmall hills with a distinctive teardrop shape. They form when a glacier moves over moraines that had formed earlier.
- 9Kettle LakeA small round lake, formed when large chunks of ice left behind by the glacier melted away.
