Secondary Storage

1. Magnetic storage:

   • External hard drive
   • Magnetic hard drive
   • High capacity (stores a lot of data)
   • Slower read/write speed in comparison to solid state storage.

2. Optical storage:

   • Blu Ray
   • DVD
   • CD
   • Really portable and can be played on lots of different devices.
   • Not very durable. They can scratch and break easily.

3. Solid state storage (flash):

   • Solid state hard drive
   • USB memory stick
   • Excellent read/write speed(It loads and saves data quickly.)
   • PlayStation memory card
   • Not a good capacity compared to magnetic storage.

4. Non-volatile storage that is needed in a computer system to store your programs, operating system and files.

   • Non-volatile means the data is not deleted when the device is turned off.
