Computational Thinking GCSE

  1. Computers can be used to help us solve problems. However, before a problem can be tackled, the problem itself and the ways in which it could be solved need to be understood. Computational thinking allows us to do this

    • Algorithms
      • Flowcharts
        • A flowchart is a type of diagram that represents an algorithm, workflow or process, showing the steps as boxes of various kinds, and their order by connecting them with arrows.
      • Psuedocode
        • Pseudocode is an informal high-level description of the operating principle of a computer program or other algorithm.
          • It uses the structural conventions of a normal programming language, but is intended for human reading rather than machine reading.
      • Python
        • Python is a widely used high-level programming language for general-purpose programming
        • Python coding is the same code used by computers but it can be written by any person learning Python coding
    • Decomposition
      • Decomposition is one of the four cornerstones of Computer Science. It involves breaking down a complex problem or system into smaller parts that are more manageable and easier to understand.
        • The smaller parts can then be examined and solved, or designed individually, as they are simpler to work with.
  2. Defragmentation

    • Defragmentation is when a progamme is put into smaller pieces to work faster with less processing power.
      • Programmes are also defragmented for it to be easier to find erros more quicker then searching the entire programma
        • Defragmented progammes are like a fragmentation grenade, it comes apart in many pieces and defragmenting is like putting it back together. Or like a broken jigsaw puzzle being put back together.
