Types of Neuroglia

1. Astrocytes

   • Location: Brain and Spinal Cord
     • Anchors neurons to capillaries; controls flow of ions around neurons; may aid in impulse condition

2. Ependymal Cells

   • Lines cavities of brain and spinal cord
     • Help form and circulate cerebrospinal fluid

3. Microglia

   • Brain and spinal cord
     • Phagocytize invading microorganisms and dead nerve tissue

4. Oligodendrocytes

   • Brain and spinal cord
     • Provide insulating covers around CNS axons forming myelin sheath

5. Schwann Cells

   • Large Nerves of the PNS
     • Providing insulating coverings around long PNS axons
