The CPU process
The program instructions are copied from a storage device to the RAM
- Fetch: The CPU requests the data or instruction from the RAM (Address Bus)
- Fetch: The data or instructions are sent to the CPU (Data Bus)
- Decode: The Control Unit decodes the instruction, decides what it means and carries it out
- Execute: If a calculation needs to be carried out, the Control Unit instructs the ALU.
- The ALU carries out the calculation
