1. A virus is something that is programmed to replicate itself. They can be very difficult to get rid of and if a single file is left, it can corrupt the whole system again.

2. A trojan originally appears harmless, possibly in the form of a game. While the user is playing the game, a program is secretly running in the backround which could possiblly allow someone else to access your computer.

3. Adware can make your internet browser to bring up annoying pop-ups. It can cause pages that you didn't request to open up taking you to unwanted web sites. .It can also take over your browser home page and direct you somewhere else every time you open up your browser

4. A worm is simillar to a virus, although its not neccersarily designed to harm your computer. A worm will copy itself so many times it actrually overrides the system and forces it to crash.

5. Click fraud malware uses your computer resources to open certain web sites and send a mouse click to the adverts. Every click makes them money. You are not aware of this of course, as the activity is running secretly in the background.

6. Pharming malware will infect your browser, redirecting you to an identical looking, but fake website. It does this by telling your browser to look for a different IP address to the actual site to that of the fake website and redirects you to the fake site.

7. Ransomware encrypts critical files and data, making them unusable. Eventually it presents the user with a ransom, demanding money be sent to the attackers to unlock the system.

8. Scareware will cause a pop-up to appear on your screen which will say something like 'Your computer has a virus. To clear the problem please purchase this software', and a link is provided in the pop-up.

9. Rootkits give other people permissions and access to your computer, allowing them to take it over remotely and do whatever they like.
