1. Viruses

   • A peice of code designed to replicate itself throughout a computer or network
   • New viruses apear everyday
   • They can be hard to get rid of
   • Often designed to delete or corrupt data

2. Worm

   • This behaves just lik a virus
   • It tries to copy itself so many times that the whole system runs out of resources and crashes.
   • In 2000 a worm cost an estimated 8 billion in damages

3. Trojan

   • Named after the famous Greek story of the Trojan Horse.
   • A trojan appears to be a harmless application for example a downloaded game
   • You play the game, but meanwhile it is running in the background carrying out its real intent, maybe letting someone else access to your computer

4. Browser malware

   • Adware
     • This malware can force your browser to display unwanted pop-up advertisements
     • It can take over your browser home page and direct you somewhere else every time you open up your browser
   • Click fruad
     • Click fraud malware aims to use your computer resources to open certain web sites and send a mouse click to the adverts
     • Every click makes them money
   • Pharming
     • Pharming malware will infect your browser
     • The site will look the same The only difference that you might notice is that the URL will be different from the genuine shop's address
