SOUND

1. Speed of sound

   • The speed of sounfd is greater in solids ( around 5000 m per second in the iron, greater in liquids ( around 1500 m per second in water) and lower in gases. In the air, the sound travels at 330 m/s at a temperature of 0°C

2. Sound is a mechanical wave propagating through an elastic medium

3. Tone

   • Is the frequency of the wave; this is, at high frequency, the sound is higher and at low frequency, the sound is lower

4. Timbre

   • Is the quality of the sound waves (combination of frequencies)

5. Doppler Effect

   • When the frequency (f) perceived by the observer is the same by the emitted by the source its formula is

     • The source moves and approaches to the observer

     • When the observer moves to the source
   • Third Case
     • When both moves

6. Wave Intensity

   • The relationship of the power per unit of area and espresses the flow of transference of acoustic energy through an area of transversal section to the direction of propagation

7. Intensity Level

   • Is the measure of intensity of sound in relation to the zero standard of the intensity ; this is, it is the sound volume with an arbitrary scale in relation to the sensation of loudness
     • Its unit is the bel (B)
       • • In decibels
       • 1 bel = 10 decibels (dB)

8. Ultrasonic Waves

   • They have a frequency higher than 20000 Hz

9. Infrasonic Waves

   • They have frequency lower than 16 Hz

10. Acoustics

    • Is the branch of physics concerned with the study of sound
