1. Purpose

   • The purpose of an algorithm is to solve a series of problems

2. Definition

   • An 'algorithm' is the name given to a defined set of steps used to complete a task.

3. Representations

   • Sequence
     • Sequencing is about the order of instructions
     • Programs will run in the order of the sequence
     • If the sequence is wrong then the outcome will be wrong
   • Selection
     • selection allows a program to make choices according to criteria
     • usually a test is made about whether a condition is meat or not
   • Iteration
