1. Deals with encryption or scrambling techniques intended to alter the linguistic representations of certain messages

   • In order to make them unintelligible to unauthorized recipients

2. Objectives

   • Confidentiality
     • That is, it guarantees that the information is accessible only to authorized personnel.
   • Integrity
     • That is, it guarantees the correctness and completeness of the information
   • Bonding
     • Allows you to link a document or transaction to a person or an automated cryptographic management system
   • Authentication
     • That is, it provides mechanisms that allow verifying the identity of the communicator
   • Solutions to problems of the lack of simultaneity in the digital tele-signature of contracts

3. Terminology

   • Symmetric cryptography
     • It groups together those cryptographic functionalities that rely on the use of a single key.
   • Public key cryptography or asymmetric cryptography
     • Groups those cryptographic functionalities that are supported by the use of key pairs composed of a public key, which is used to encrypt, and by a private key, which is used to decrypt.
   • Threshold cryptography
     • Groups those cryptographic functionalities that rely on the use of a threshold of participants from which the action can be performed.
   • Identity-based cryptography.
     • It is a type of asymmetric cryptography that is based on the use of identities.
