  1. Virtual memory

    • Virtual memory is used when RAM is full
    • Part of secondary storage is used as virtual memory (temporary RAM
    • Data from RAM is moved to the secondary storage to make space in the RAM for new data
    • When data in virtual memory is needed, it is moved back to the RAM
    • Disadvantage
      • Virtual memory is slower to access data compared to RAM
  2. Secondary storage

    • Use the term “secondary storage” (Not hard drive) You can use the terms “data” and “programs” when writing about memory or virtual memory
  3. RAM

    • Advantage
      • RAM is quicker to access data compared to virtual memory
  4. Program Counter

    • Stores the address of the next instruction to be run.
  5. Accumulator

    • Stores the intermediate results of a calculation
  6. Memory Address Register (MAR)

    • Stores the address where the data will be fetched?written
  7. Memory Data Register (MDR)

    • Stores the data or instruction which is being fetched/written from memory
  8. Diagnosing patients

    • The speed in which we can access information
    • The accuracy of information in which we can access
    • How technology changes the amount of human interaction
    • How technology can’t always replace the need for humans
    • How technology can automate processes which used to take longer
    • How computer systems can identify patterns
  9. Treating patients

    • How technology changes the amount of human interaction
    • How technology can’t always replace the need for humans
    • How technology can automate processes which used to take longer
    • How computer systems can identify patterns
  10. Storage of records

    • The speed in which we can access information
    • How all technology can keep data secure
    • How technology can still be at risk of hacking
    • How data can be stored centrally
    • How data can be accessed in many locations around the world from different devices
    • Privacy of information
  11. Peer to peer

    • All PCs have equal status (meaning there is no server managing or controlling the network)
    • They share resources with each other (they are all over the network and not in one central point)
  12. Client server

    • All devices are managed/controlled by a server
    • Can install software across the network
    • Share printers with certain computers
    • Control the access of computers to the Internet
  13. MAC address

    • 48 bit address
    • Work at OSI layer2 (link layer)
    • Physical adress
    • Fixed, assigned by manufacturer
  14. IP address

    • 32 bit address
    • works at OSI layer 3 (network layer)
    • Logical address
    • Can change depending on the network environment
