   • Data: raw numbers with no meaning that you input

2. Functions

   • =SUM(A1:E1) used to add cells A1 and E1 and everything inbetween, saving you from doing the sum "=A1+B1+C1+D1+E1"
   • =average(A1:E1)
   • =IF (A1>A9, "PASS" "FAIL")
   • =MINI (A1:E1) find the smallest in the range
   • =MAX(A1:E1) find the biggest in the range

3. formatting techniques

   • colour borders
   • cells formatted due to data type. ( e.g currency has a £ sign)
   • Cells can be merged or formatted together, e.g A1:C1 can become one big cell
   • Font
   • Background of cells colour filled

4. Advantages

   • When data changes formulas automatically recalculate
   • Computers do not make mathematical mistakes, GIGO (garbage in, garbage out)
