testing

  1. test harnesses

    • automated testing - testing takes less time and the quality of the test is more thorough and better
    • runs the developed programming code under different conditions and monitor its output against the output that it should produce
    • produces results in a report which the tester can use to make adjustments to the programming code
  2. performance testing

    • tests how fast a part of the system performs under a particular work load
    • is used to demonstrate that the system meets its performance criteria
    • compares 2 systems to find which one performs better and can measure what parts of the system or workload cause the system the perform badly
  3. scalability testing

    • designed to ensure the system will function correctly and give acceptable performance levels when scaled up to its full requirements
    • similar to volume testing as it looks at the limits of the system by scaling up until the performance drops
  4. volume testing

    • this is a program that is designed to see how well a system can cope with different volumes of data
    • finds the data limit of the system
    • notes how well a system can cope with the max data it can handle
  5. usability testing

    • testing that the system isnt too complex and the users of the system can easily navigate the system to gain the full experience it has too offer
  6. multi-platform testing/ profitability testing

    • mainly used for testing web sites to test how well a website runs on a range of different devices
  7. prototyping

  8. difficulties in testing large ICT systems

    • relies on networks so all data has to be encrypted for the referendum
    • relieing on service providers such as sky, BT to offer the network conection, if the service providers decides to do maintenence testing will have to stop
