Stages of Data Analysis

1. 1. Identify the need.

   • Begin with the right questions.
     • Wha information is needed? What do we wan to find out? How will it benefit the company? - This will help you decide where to look, what to look for and how you will know when you have found it. 

2. 2. Define Scope

   • Content
     • Detail
       • Timescales
         • Constraints
   • Decide how to measure it
     • What is your time frame? What is your unit of measure? What factors show be included?

3. 3. Identify potential sources

   • Before developing plans to collect new data, identify what data sets are already available. Sources can include collection of background information
   • Sales figures
   • Customer Surveys

4. 4. Source and select

   • Before you collect new data, determine what information could be collected from existing databases or sources on hand.  - Collect this data first. 

5. 5. Select the most appropriate tools

   • Charts & Graphs - To identify patterns
   • Trend Analysis - Presents findings

6. 6. Process and Analyse

   • Set up a spreadsheet to produce a graph

7. 7. Record and Store information

   • Write a report based on the results of the processing

8. 8. Share Results

   • Send the report to stakeholders.  This may include incorporate charts, graphs, analysis tools. For example, an end of year school school reports to parents would gather information from teachers, subjects, assessments, opinions and present these as a brief discussion.
