system architecture

1. CPU

   • main component within a computer
   • location of the fetch decode execute cycle

2. CACHE

   • speeds up computer
   • smallest and fastest from of memory
   • contains frequently used instructions.

3. MOTHERBOARD

   • a printed circuit board that allows the CPU, RAM, and all other computer hardware components to communicate with each other.
   • located on the back side or at the bottom of the computer chassis

4. GPU

   • lessen the work of the CPU and produce faster video and graphics. A GPU is not only used in a PC on a video card or motherboard; it is also used in mobile phones, display adapters, workstations and game consoles.
   • located on plug-in cards, in a chipset on the motherboard or in the same chip as the CPU

5. RAM

   • temporarily stores data
   • the ram is located on the motherboard
