1. Setting

   • act one is set in the home of reverend Samuel Parris, he is found praying next to his daughter Betty who is lying in bed inert. later he is joined by Tituba (reverand parris's slave from barbados) who he tells to leave. the night before, reverend parris catches his niece (abigail williams) and a few other women 'dancing in the forest' and singing songs around a cauldron. we find out that the reason that betty is inert is because of her father jumping out and frightning her (so she passed out). Eventually the word has gone around of 'witchcraft' and 'everyone' is mumbling about it, this leads to mr and mrs Putnam coming in and asking how high did she fly Further on throughout the act more character enter the main being John Hale a young doctor who has come to help betty. while he is at the house he makes tituba confess to witchcraft as she was in the forest with the girls the night before, abigail and the other girls catch on and copy her and find that if you confess you will be saved.
   • act two is set at mr and mrs proctor's house, after eight days around 39 people have been arrested for witchcraft( the majority which are ladies or girls). in the proctor's house john proctor come home to his wife and some dinner, soon to been joined by reverend John Hale who has come to talk about how his wife and rebecca nurse have been charged with witchcraft. soon after cheever arrives to arrest Mrs Proctor for witchcraft, he finds a poppet with a needle in it (this belongs to mary warren).cheever finds the poppet as proof of witchcraft and takes mrs proctor away. Soon before cheever arrived, Mary warren confessed that everyone being accused was fake and that they only did so that they weren't going to be executed, and as soon as cheever left with mrs proctor he shouts at mary commanding her to confess in court the next day, she eventually agrees after crying and saying that she will not
   • act three is set in the salem court. at start giles tries to defend his wife but is dragged out of the court, soon after Mary Warren and John Proctor enter the room. Mary admits to Danforth that she and the other girls were faking the whole time. Danforth is not convinced that this is the truth . Proctor presents a petition signed by 91 people who are willing to vouch for the good character of Elizabeth Proctor, Rebecca Nurse, and Martha Corey. Danforth orders warrants drawn up for all the people who signed the petition.Proctor gives Danforth Mary Warren’s statement where she admits in writing that she and the other girls were faking. The girls are brought in from the courtroom for questioning by Danforth. Abigail denies Mary’s accusations. Prcotor calls abigail a whore and admits having an affair, elizabeth is brought in and denies it. Abigail claims to see a bird on the rafters that she insists is Mary Warren’s spirit poised to attack her. The other girls follow. Proctor is arrested.
   • Act 4 opens with Herrick removing Tituba and Sarah Good from a jail cell so the court officials can hold a meeting there.Hale is trying to get the prisoners to confess to their crimes. Parris reveals the abigail and mary warren have run away with his life savings.The authorities then discuss the state of social unrest that has emerged in Salem after the jailing of so many citizens. Parris is very concerned about what will happen if they hang people who are well-respected.He advises that they postpone the hangings and continue pushing for confessions, but Danforth refuses because it would make him look bad.John tentatively agrees to confess, but he refuses to name any names and then is reluctant to sign the confession. He decides he can’t go through the rest of his life after signing his name into disgrace in this permanent way. He snatches the signed paper away at the last minute and rips it to shreds, thus sealing his fate. Rebecca Nurse and John are then led off to the gallows.

   • the format the most should write in is intro then your points then your conclusion. for the intro and conclusion they should both be strong and should both relate back to the quesdtion. for the points it should be in a standard PEE *3 format.
