1. Element- a substance made up of just 1 type of atom

   • Compund- when 2 or more elements are chemically bonded together

2. protons, which make up part of the nucelus, have a positive charge and a mass of 1

3. nuetrons, which make up part of the nucleus, have a nuetral charge and a mass of 1

4. electrons orbit the nuecleus, have a negative charge and a mass of almost 0

5. atomic number/protons

   • atomic mass/electron

6. A reaction between atoms either is losing or gaining an electron

   • it's easier for reactions to take place if electron is on the most outer shell because it's futher away from the nucleus (reduces force of attraction)

7. group 1 elements react well with water and all produce hydrogen gas

   • there are 111 atoms altogether

8. shells can only hold up to 8 electrons on each shell

   • the inner shell has 2 electrons

9. atoms, mass and charge have to be the same

   • the small numbers talk about the element behind it
     • big numbers mean multiply everything behind by it
