HTML (HYPER TEXT MARKUP LANGUAGE)

1. WWW

   • series of web pages
     • stored on web servers
     • HTML is the standard language of a web page
   • browsers would request the IP address from their service provider
   • world wide web

2. TAGS

   • label things such as headings, paragraphs and pictures
   • the HTML tags aren't shown on the page, but websites use them to display the content
   • defines the layout of a web page.
   • <br> =breaks

3. ELEMENTS

   • the HTML codes are made up of a series of elements which are shown using HTML tags
   • a HTML element usually has a start tag and an end tag with the element content in the middle
     • e.g. <h1>heading</h1>

4. DOCUMENTS

   • all HTML documents start with a declaration such as : <!DOCTYPE html>
   • the main document itself starts with : <html> and ends with: </html>
   • the visible part of the document is within the tags: <body> and </body>

5. DEFINITION

   • 'hypertext' refers to any hyperlinks a HTML page may contain.
   • 'markup language' refers to the way tags are used to define elements and the layout of the page
