   • one example is a floppy disk
   • another example is tape
   • an advantage is that cost effective and very portable
   • one disadvantage is not very durable and has a limited capacity

2. magnetic storage

   • high capacity (stores a lot of data
   • disadvantege not durable due to moving parts
   • one example is data is stored by magnetising the surface of flat, circular plates called platters
