Content Analysis

1. Grounded Analysis

   • Keeps the data qualitative (non-numerical)
   • Uses pre-determined themes identified in previous research

2. Frequency Analysis

   • Makes data quantitative (numerical)
   • Uses a behavioural check-list to count to occurence of different behaviours
   • Data is used to make a bar chart

3. Thematic Analysis

   • Keeps the data qualitative (non-numerical)
   • Read a text several times
     • Highlight with different colours anything of interest
       • These themes represent clusters of recurring ideas
         • Support each theme with examples, e.g. quotations

   • Analysing qualitative data
     • Books, poetry and diaries
     • Media, TV, films and songs
     • Paintings
     • Observational studies
