   • In general, an 'algorithm' is the name given to a step by step process which completes at task
   • In computing terms an algorithm describes a set of steps needed to carry out a software task

2. Purpose

   • An algorithm is an effective method expressed as a finite list of well-defined instructions for performing a function

3. Representation

   • Flowcharts
     • Shapes
       • Sahpes are used to represent what the writing in the box is related to
     • A way of writing an algorithm
   • Pseudocode
     • A way of writing an algorithm
