behaviours must be changed into those that are more helpful

*anger*anxiety*depression*low self esteem *self defeating behaviours
- Believe that behaviours, emotions and thoughts are linked with each other, thus
able to affect each other

Eg. Feel anxious will make a person more nervous
- Identify and challenge these beliefs can assist a person to reduce distress and enhance their ability
to cope in everyday life situations

- Can be applied in everyday circumstances in
conjunction with coping strategies such as
relaxation techniques and problem solving
