EUTHANASIA
- Both Euthanasia and assisted suicide is
illegal in the UK.
- Depending on the
circumstances, Euthanasia is
regarded as either
manslaughter or murder and
you can get a punishment of up
to life of imprisonment.
- Assisted suicide is illegal under the
terms of the Suicide Act in 1961 with a
punishment of up to 14 years
imprisonment. Although, attempting
suicide alone is not a crime itself.
- There are different types
of Euthanasia such as:
- Voluntary Euthanasia
- When someone makes their
own decision to die but asks for
help to do it.
- Non-Voluntary Euthanasia
- When a someone is unable say
whether or not they want to die,
e.g if your in a coma and unable
to speak or make contact, and
someone else makes the decision
for you e.g a doctor or parents.
- Involuntary Euthanasia
- When someone is killed against
their own wishes.
- Voluntary and Non-Voluntary Euthanasia,
depending on the circumstances, can be seen
as Voluntary manslaughter (When someone
kills another person, but the circumstances
can justify their actions) or murder.
