1. Social & Emotional

   • Play alone for long periods of time
   • Often need a comfort object, such as a teddy bear or a special blanket
   • Enjoy pointing at objects
   • Show definite “likes” and “dislikes” at bed time
   • Enjoy songs and action rhymes.
   • Enjoy making noises by banging toys .
   • Still prefer to be near to a familiar adult.
   • still take everything to the mouth.
   • May drink from a cup with help.

2. Gross Motor

   • May take some steps when both hands are held
   • Can sit unsupported for about 15 minutes
   • Pull themselves to a standing position
   • Find ways to move around on the floor: maybe rolling, wriggling or crawling on stomach
   • Stand holding on to furniture.
   • Turn their body to look sideways when stretching out to pick up a toy from the floor.
   • can maintain a sitting position with a straight back.

3. Fine Motor

   • Can grasp objects between finger and thumb (pincer grasp)
   • Manipulate toys easily from one hand to the other
   • Can release a toy, but not set it down
   • Move arms up and down when excited.

4. Cognitive & language

   • Watch a toy being hidden and then know where to look for it
   • Imitate some adult sounds
   • Recognize familiar pictures.
   • Understand and obey “no”
   • Variety of intonation
   • Can judge the size of an object up to 60cm away.
   • Look in the correct direction for fallen toys.
   • understand their daily routine and will follow simple instructions.
   • Enjoy communicating with sounds.
   • Know general characteristics of their language - they will not respond to foreign language.
