1. making your online information unreadable unless you/they have a key

2. keeping your info safe and secure

3. 2 types of keys

   • symetric key
     • where each person has a key which is exactly the same.
     • info can be send back and forth, ecrypting and decrypting
     • if a key is lost the risk of criminals acessing your information gets higher and higher
       • not secure enough
   • public key
     • sending info to the person with a key
       • they use it to encrypt/lock the info and sends theirs back
         • Therefore you don't have to share your key with anyone
     • eg) a bank can provide a public key to browser
       • so info sent to the back can be encrypted
         • only the private key can open it
           • more secure and more confidence
