   • My Definition: It is programs and tasks that are run on a computer. It is usually stored in secondary storage. When being used, it loads to the RAM.

2. Utility Software

   • My Definition: Run by the system to make maintaining the system easier.
   • Security
     • Antivirus
     • Firewall
     • Spyware protection
   • Disk Organsiation
     • Disk defragmenter
     • File transfer
     • Disk formatting
   • Maintenance
     • System information and diagnostics
     • Automatic updates
     • System clean-up tools

3. Application Software

   • Your Definition: Software that is made to do real world tasks that users want.
   • Examples include Microsoft Office, Google Chrome and Windows Media Player.

4. System Software

   • My Definition: It is programs used to make use of the hardware on the computer.
   • The main two types of system software include the operating system and utility software

5. OS

   • My Definition: It is software that controls the hardware and lets users run applications.
   • Examples include Linux, Windows and MacOS
