1. Periodic table

   • Chemical families
     • Groups of elements found in columns
       • The elements in the these groups have similar chemical properties
     • Group 1 - Alkali metals
       • They all react with air and water
       • They are called alkali metals because they have an alkali pH
       • Very reactive because they have an empty outer shell
       • Increase in reactivity the further down the column
     • Group 7 - Halogens
       • Group of non - metals
       • reactivity decreases down the column
     • Noble gases
       • Very unreactive because they have a full outer shell of electrons
       • Used in neon lights

2. Sub-atomic particles

   • Electrons
     • Negitively charged
   • Nucleus
     • Protons
       • Positivly charged
       • Located in the nucleus
     • Neutrons
       • No charge
       • Found in the nucleus
