Types of memory

1. Random Access Memory

   • fast temporary memory
   • programs and data stored
     • when power is supplied
   • held on computer chip
   • volatile, power off... memory disappear
   • read/write ∴can be altered

2. Read Only Memory

   • fast permanent memory
   • used: holding instructions
     • needed to start computer
   • held on computer chip
   • non volatile
   • cannot be altered by user

3. Size of memory/storage

   • Bit= 1 bit
   • Byte= 8 bits
   • Kilobyte= 1024 bytes
   • Megabyte= 1024 kb
   • Gigabyte= 1024 mb
   • Terabyte= 1024 gb
