Atomic Number: The number of protons in the nucleus of the atom. This determines an elements place on the periodic table
Element Symbol
Atomic Mass: The mass of any kind of atom. Usually expressed in atomic mass units
The Periodic Table
Created By Dimitri Mendeleev
It is a chart that groups the elements according to similar properties
- Periods organised in rows
- Groups organised in columns
- Atomic Number increases as you move along the rows and columns
Definitions:
Chemical Reactions: A chemical reaction is a process that involves the rearrangement of the molecular of ionic structure of a substance. A chemical reaction is detected by physical changes.

Element: A pure substance that is made from a single type of atom
![]()
Compound: A compound is a substance formed when two or more elements are chemically bonded together.
Mixture: A mixture is when you combine two substances in such a way that, no chemical reaction occurs.
Atom: An atom is the smallest particle of a chemical element that can exist
Sub-Particles: There are 3 basic parts of an atom. Neutrons, electrons and protons. Electrons are found in orbitals, or shells and are negatively charged. Protons are positively charged and are found in the nucleus of the atom. The neutrons are also found in the nucleus of the atom.
Product: A product is a substance obtained from
another substance through chemical change.
Reactants: A reactants/reactants is any
substance that undergoes a chemical change in a given reaction

Chemical Changes/Reactions: Chemical changes and reactions can be identified by looking for a change in physical attributes. For example a chemical change could be identified by looking for a change of colour and smell.
