There are many ways to represent the sample space of a compound event. You may use an organized list to show all the possible outcomes of rolling a number die and tossing a coin simultaneously.
1. Simple table with all posible outcomes between the coing and the die.
2. Grid but only with two
3. Table with two spinners with three different outcomes
4. Tree diagrams- each brand starts from the same node, the number of branches indicates the number of outcomes.
PRACTICE:
Determine the number of possible outcomes for each compund event.
1. There are four shirts in one drawer: 1 blue, 1 yellow, 1 red, and 1 gray. There are two pairs of socks in another dra: 1 pair of gray socks and 1 pair of black socks. A shiett and a pair of socks are taken out of the drawers. How many possible outcomes are there?
2. The result of tossing two fair six-sided number dice are added. How many possible outcomes are there?
