Wavelength is the distance between the peaks of a wave. All sound is waves, so all sound has a wavelength. Wavelength is inversely related to frequency: As the distance between peaks increases, the number of peaks in a given time period decreases. Wavelength also controls the pitch of a sound. The relationship is as follows:

Humans can hear sounds with wavelengths from about 17mm to about 17m. By way of comparison, the wavelength of A 440hz is .75m and
