To meet
Scarlet Price’s requirement for data security, team “Endurance” has considered
the need for off-site storage as part of its backup and recovery strategy.
Discuss other
factors that should have been considered when developing a backup and recovery
strategy for the youth community centre. (8 Marks) Jun 2012
-
When
developing a backup and recovery along with where the storage would be kept,
Scarlet Price should also
consider who will be carrying out the backup- they can allocate one of the
employees to ensure that adequate backup is carried out. They would also
need to consider what
media it will be stored on, and as it is a smaller organisation an external
hardware could be used in order to store the backup because of the fact that it
is a smaller organisation this media is in the finance of the organisation.
The type of back up along with how often it should be carried out would need to be considered.
The youth centre could carry out an incremental back up twice a week in which new data is stored along
with the previously old data which had been backed up before

Explain
what is meant by :
i)
Adaptive
Maintenance (2 Marks)
-
When
there’s a change in the environment, the system would need to be altered in
order to fit this change. Eg. Legislation/VAT
ii) Corrective
Maintenance (2 Marks)
-
This
would be carried out if the system contains bugs or errors such as if the
system is moving slow
iii)
Perfective
Maintenance (2 Marks)
-
This will
be used in order to enhance the features based on the feedback from clients-
eg. If they want to change the colour of the layout in the system

ICT
systems can vary in size from those used by small, one-person businesses to
those used by large, multi-national organisations.
Discuss how the
size of an organisation may affect the backup and recovery procedures that it
uses. (15 Marks) Jan 2013
The size of an
organisation is essential when planning the backup and recovery procedure in
which it will use. Initially, they may carry out a risk analysis in which the
business would ensure that everyone is aware of the possible threats which can
take place in the system, this may more likely be carried out by a large
organisation rather than a small organisation. In the case that there is a
threat to the system, whether external or internal, downtime for a large
organisation is unacceptable as it could result in the loss of money for the
organisation. Therefore large organisation would use recovery sites such a hot
site , in which there are already equipment and electricity at the site ready
to be used in the case of a threat. Smaller organisations may use recovery
sites such as a cold site which the site has no furniture or equipment and
everything would need to be moved from the current site to the cold site.
Smaller organisations can also make use of reciprocal arrangement in which they
along with another small organisation has a formal or informal agreement to make
use of each other’s system in the case that there are problems within their
own. Smaller organisations are more likely to use these methods rather than a
hot site as it would be too expensive to ensure that electricity and new
equipment are already stored along with the fact that they can afford a
downtime in the system while the larger organisations would not be able to do
so, therefore they have to ensure that they have a site ready to be used in the
case of outage. Larger organisations are more likely to have a contingency plan
in which they would plan the recovery in the case of various different outage
such as electricity, complete/partial loss of telecommunications and other
losses such as loss of maintenance services. They larger organisation would
more likely to plan how to recover from such loss as they cannot afford any
downtime in the case of an outage etc. Smaller organisations may have some of
the factors planned, however having all of the factors planned in a contingency
plan is less likely. Both organisations, would have a backup strategy in which
they will highlight who will carry out the back up, for a larger organisation
the backup is more likely to be carried out by a set person such as an ICT
technician, while a smaller organisation the responsibility of backup will just
be allocated to an already hired employee. For a larger organisation it is more
likely for them to carry out a full or incremental backup daily, so that they
have all the data if needed, whilst a small organisation would not need for
often backups but rather a couple days in the week for backup to take place
