General
suggestions: Look at the terms at the
end of each chapter. I have not reproduced them on this guide. You should
watch the videos, but I will not draw specific details from them unless I cover
them in class.
Readings:
I would suggest that you abstract the readings. I won’t ask about details, but
you should be able to give the main idea/findings/argument for each reading,
whether we have discussed them in class or not. The readings that will be on
this test are on Blackboard: Miner, Cooper, Bower, Chagnon, and Diamond.
The
test will consist of multiple choice, fill in and short answer questions, with
one short essay. There will be a choice of essay questions. Bring paper and
pen/pencil to the exam.

Some
of this information is incorporated into Ch. 11, but I have chosen to discuss

The
lecture outline is on Blackboard. For this test, focus on types of political
organization.
1.
What are the characteristics of political
organization for bands, tribes, chiefdoms, and
states?
2.
How do features of political organization integrate or “make sense” with other
social systems

The chart on p.243 of your text will be
helpful here.

examples of each from the text and/or
lecture.

patterns?
